Doorways of Ireland

Throughout the ages, doorways have attracted the art of the designer and the skill of the craftsman perhaps more than any other architectural element. In this book, Michael Fewer explores how Ireland’s builders and designers have dealt with the doorway in terms of function, style, composition, components, and materials. He examines 54 doors, ranging from the Seefin cairn at Kilbride, dating from 3000 B.C., to the 18th-century doors of Dublin’s Merrion Square and the contemporary entrance of the National Gallery Millennium Wing.
