English Translation Author:
Translation in general is the slighting of one language and thought system in order to ‘translate’ it to another one, and in this way sort favoring the language being translated into. There are, naturally, come pros and cons to translation. English, in particular is an odd language, as it has many irregular rules. Many people have said that it has more irregularities than rules without exceptions. Some language problems common to all types of language translation • Obscure idioms • Rare jargon • Slang • Proper names of people, places, organizations, etc Neologisms and dialect terms • Unexplained abbreviations and acronyms • Stylistic differences, such as redundant phrases in a source language, when redundancy is frowned upon in the target language • Contrast between languages with respect to punctuation Many times in English translation projects common words are a problem for translation because when words have several meanings in the original language it may be very difficult for translators to tell which words should be used in the translated-to language. This, obviously, lend to translation error or ambiguity. Additionally, it may be hard for people learning English to understand which distinction or use of the word is being spoken. English is notorious for this type of translation difficulty. It is interesting to learn about English translated into other languages, as there are often many different possible outputs from the original English. English is full of odd adjective combinations that can come out pretty funny sounding in many other languages. Sometimes it is humor that is most lost in translation. After all, humor is the sudden mixture or juxtaposition of opposite and seemingly non-mixable items. The new combination or info makes us laugh for the moment that we put the two together. So it’s no wonder that there are as many different ways to express humor as there are word combinations in the various languages. In addition to language translation as in English translations, there are several other applications of translation, such as administrative translation, computer translation, legal translation, commercial translation, literary translation, scientific translation, technical translation, pedagogical translation and general translation too.
